About Us

Elza and Minnie Adams started the funeral home in June 1924 at 301 Second Ave. SE Beach City, Ohio. The Adamses came and opened the funeral home from Freeport, Ohio, having sold their business at Freeport.

In 1934, the residence at 231 Second Avenue was for sale. The home was purchased and moved across the street because it was much larger and families were starting to want calling hours and the funeral service at a larger facility than most family homes.

In 1938, Edward Lantzer, Jr. Married Veda Adams, the daughter of Elza and Minnie Adams. He had attended and graduated from the Cleveland Mortuary School, and he and Veda joined the business and it became known as the Adams-Lantzer Funeral Home.

In 1945, Elza Adams died, and Minnie, with the assistance of Veda and Edward Lantzer, Jr., continued the business.

The Lantzers purchased the business in 1953 from Minnie and it became the Lantzer Funeral Home.

On September 12, 1978, Edward Lantzer, Jr., many knew him as “Digger”, died suddenly of a heart attack. His daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Clinton Garver, assisted Veda with the operation of the funeral home until the present time.

Because of the need for a licensed individual in charge, Mr. Lewis E. Boone was employed in 1980 and the name changed to Lantzer-Boone Funeral Home.

In 1981, Veda Lantzer died after suffering a heart attack. Barbara began college to be able to apply for a funeral director’s license. In 1997, she received her license as a funeral director for the state of Ohio, and the funeral home went back to the name Lantzer Funeral Home. Barbara uses her maiden name on the license, as the state requires the name of the business to be that of the person in charge.

The Lantzer Funeral Home continues serving Beach City and surrounding communities. The funeral home handles both at need and also pre-need funerals. Pre-need is funded by irrevocable bank accounts or insurance policies. The Lantzer Funeral Home is family owned and operated.
