William (Bill) E. Beard

William (Bill) E. Beard, 97, of Beach City, passed away peacefully April 25. He was born in Mapleton to the late Grant and Hazel (Clapper) Beard. Bill retired from Timken at Canton and Gambranus in 1975 as a fire department inspector he was also a school bus driver for Fairless local schools. Bill enjoyed his time as a Boy Scout member since 1968 and in 1969 he became the treasurer and executive officer for Troop #301 for 41 years. He was a World War II veteran and was the Past Commander for 3 years of the American Legion of Weimer-Widder Post #549 of Beach City of which he was a lifetime member and also of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Beach City. He is survived by two sons; John (Butch) and Susan Beard of Bolivar, James (Jim) and Hollie Beard of Springfield, a step-son; Tom and Johnny Whalen of Strasburg, two step-daughters; Belinda (James) Code of Canada, and Lucinda (Daniel) Attstaetter of Ada, seven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and his special friend Marti (Stucki) Stoner. He is preceded by his loving wives Mary Hennis who passed away in 1973 and Dora Lee Kanagy who passed in 2002 and two brothers and one sister and one son; Russell Beard. There will be a celebration of life for Bill Thursday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at Lantzer Funeral Home, Beach City. Friends may call from 3:00 to 5:00 Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bill’s honor to the American Legion Post # 549, P.O. Box 205, Beach City, Oh 44608.
