Elaine Mae Amos

Elaine Mae Amos age 88 of Brewster, Ohio entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, November 27th. 2021 surrounded by family and her two favorite feline companions, Lilly and Milly. Born on October 10, 1933 in Winesburg to the late Arthur and Treva (Beechy) Richards. She was preceded pin death by her husband, Maurice (Morrie) Amos in 1995. Elaine grew u[ in Winesburg and graduated from the former Beach City High School in 1951. She spent her adult years living in the Beach City/Brewster area. Elaine was a 26-year postal employee and as proud to be the first female postmaster of Beach City. She retired from her job at the post office in 1992 and then became an instrumental part of helping to raise her two granddaughters whom she loved very dearly. Elaine was a member of First Lutheran Church in Beach City where she served as organist and pianist when needed. She also was a member of the Winesburg Historical Society, Beach City American Legion Auxiliary, Navarre VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of the Brewster Women of the Moose. Over the years she held many offices in these organizations. Elaine also helped he husband place American flags on Veterans graves for the Memorial Day services at the Beach City Cemetery. She proudly and precisely continued that honor with his passing. Elaine started each day with several cups of coffee and ended each night with a large bowl of ice cream. She loved to garden, sing, play the piano and organ, listen to the weather and make sure everyone know when a storm was predicted. Her cursive writing was a work of art. Most of all, Elaine was an animal lover, taking in and usually keeping every stray cat that would come her way. Along with her husband and parents Elaine is preceded in death by her stepfather, Thomas Hanlin. She is survived by her daughter Roxie (Scott) Rush of Navarre, her granddaughters, Katie Rush of St. Joseph, MI and Maggie Rush of Brewster, her sister and other half of the famous dynamic duo, Evelyn Swan formerly of Wilmot. Her nephew Steve (Chrystal) Swan of Strasburg also survives along with many other cherished family and friends. A celebration of her wonderful life will be held on Saturday, December 4th, 2021 at 11 am in the First Lutheran Church in Beach City. Calling hours will begin at 10 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice Truman House, Winesburg Historical Society or a no kill pet shelter of your choice. We would like to thank Community Hospice for helping Elaine pass with peace, comfort and dignity.
